อดีตแชมป์เปี้ยนแข่งรถผู้ก่อตั้งแบรนด์ Roland Sands Design
เรื่องราวของ Roland Sands ชื่อเต็ม Roland Wayne Sands ทายาทหนุ่มของ Performance Machine Shop ผู้เติบโตใน Long Beach รัฐ California ประเทศ สหรัฐอเมริกา เมื่อวันที่ 12 สิงหาคม ปี 1974 เริ่มต้นจากการศึกษาและเก็บเกี่ยวประสบการณ์ที่หลากหลายในอุตสาหกรรมรถมอเตอร์ไซค์ของครอบครัว และ ได้รถคันแรกเป็นมอเตอร์ไซค์วิบาก RM50 เป็นของขวัญในวันเกิดอายุครบ 5 ขวบ ซึ่งเขาก็หลงรักมอเตอร์ไซค์แม้ประสบอุบัติเหตุกระดูกหักแทบจะทันทีที่หัดขี่ เขาเริ่มงานใน Performance Machine Shop โดยการถูพื้นตอนอายุ 14 ปี และขยับไปขัดทำสี ออกแบบล้อและงานอื่นๆอย่างรวดเร็วจนในที่สุดก็ได้เป็นผู้อำนวยการฝ่าย R&D and Design ของ Performance Machine Shop
เมื่อ Roland อายุได้ 19 ปี พ่อของเขา Perry Sands ได้ส่งตัวเขาไปฝึกซ้อมและเริ่มต้นอาชีพนักแข่งจักรยานยนต์กับ Keith Code ที่ California Superbike School และเขาขี่ Yamaha TZ250 เครื่อง 2 จังหวะ คว้าแชมป์ รุ่น 250 GP ประเภทดาวรุ่งที่สนาม Willow String Raceway ใน California ซึ่งตลอด 9 ปีในอาชีพนักแข่งของเขาได้ประสบอุบัติเหตุถึงขั้นกระดูกหัก 32 ครั้ง แต่เขาก็ติดอันดับ Top rank รุ่น 250 GP ของ AMA เสมอรวมไปถึงการคว้าแชมป์ระดับประเทศในปี 1998 ด้วย
ในปี 2000 เขาได้ร่วมทีมกับ Honda เข้าการแข่งขัน British Super Cup และยังคงเป็นเจ้าของสถิติสนามถึงสี่สนาม รวมไปถึงสามสนามที่มีชื่อเสียงอย่าง Daytona, Sears point และ Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca จากนั้นเขาได้ผันตัวเข้าสู่วงการคัสต้อมรถและหันหลังให้กับอาชีพนักแข่งในปี 2002 เนื่องจากอาการบาดเจ็บจากการแข่งขัน
จากประสบการณ์ที่เคยได้ลงมือจัดการปรับแต่งรถที่ใช้แข่งขันของตัวเองทำให้ผลงานในวงการแต่งรถของเขาโด่งดังและได้รับรางวัลมากมาย จนกระทั่งปี 2004 Roland ก็ได้รับรางวัล Chip Foose Design of Excellence Award จากรถ ‘The Hard Way'และ Rookie of the Year กับรายการ Discovery Chanel Biker Build-Off
หลังจากประสบความสำเร็จอย่างมหาศาลจากการเข้าร่วมรายการ Discovery Chanel Biker Build-Off กับตำนานอย่าง Arlen Ness จนกระทั่งในปี 2005 เขาก็ได้ก่อตั้ง Roland Sands Design ขึ้นซึ่ง RSD ร่วมงานกับค่ายรถใหญ่ๆเพื่อสร้างและออกแบบรถคัสต้อมในแบบที่ตัวเขาเองถนัดคือการผสมผสานกันของชอปเปอร์และสปอร์ตไบค์ ซึ่งผลงานของ Roland ได้รับรางวัลมากมายจนกระทั่งครองแชมป์ในรายการ Discovery Chanel Biker Build-Off จากการเอาชนะ Jesse Rooke ในปี 2006
ปัจจุบัน Roland Sands ดำรงตำแหน่งผู้อำนวยการฝ่ายออกแบบ และพัฒนาผลิตภัณฑ์ชิ้นส่วน และอุปกรณ์ต่างๆสำหรับมอเตอร์ไซค์ ให้กับ Performance Machine Shop ซึ่งเป็นบริษัทของครอบครัว
